Welcome to your introduction
to the induction of hypnosis with these free hypnosis scripts
for you to practice with. Although this website is primarily an Ericksonian
Hypnosis site, it is also about learning the various different hypnosis
induction techniques. It is my pleasure to share with you the first
of a number of free hypnosis scripts coming to you here at Hypnotic
Advancments covering the Dave Elman Induction, along
with two free self hypnosis, hypnosis scripts, and a
number of suggestibility tests, for
you to play with, and finally for the grand finally an Ericksonian
Hypnosis styled free hypnosis script. You might want to
take note that I did say these are the first of the free hypnosis
scripts that you will find throughout this website, there are about
thirty more at present, including the famous handshake
induction throughtout this site; I wonder how long it will take you
to find them all. Some of the free hypnosis, hypnosis scripts
throughout the site are easy to find, and others are tucked away within
the pages for specialty applications, but those of you that really want
to learn will find them all easily I am sure. By the way, I will be adding
at least one new hypnosis script each week someplace here, so
keep looking because you will indeed find some magically hypnotic
surprises. For now though, you can even simply click one of the links
here below to take you straight to your favorite free hypnosis script.
These free hypnosis script links will take you to the famous
Dave Elman Induction, two personal self
hypnosis scripts, and a sample Ericksonian hypnosis
script, as well as a few others with time, so log on once in a while
and have a look at what's new and what other free hypnosis scripts
might be posted, right here at Hypnotic Advancements.
The
Dave Elman Induction
This free hypnosis
script induction is ages old, and used by roughly 85% of the hypnotists
you will find. Why so popular, because it is fast (roughly seven minutes
to a somnambulistic trance), easy to learn, and very effective
if followed the way I have outlined it here. This free hypnosis script
is my own variation which has been tried and tested thousands of times,
and is what I use to teach my hypnosis students. In the brackets
throughout the hypnotic induction you will find directions, and
clues as to what to look for, and do. Have fun, and drop me a line telling
me about all the fun you had playing with this free hypnosis script
and outline. That's right, it's all about play, and having fun, so call
all your friends, and ask them if they would like to have a nice relaxing
evening sleeping with you. Well maybe not all of them, just those bst
fitting.
Dave Elman Induction
– ( with elaborations)
The Dave Elman Induction is not
only one of the easiest hypnotic inductions for anyone to learn,
it is also one of the most effective.
It has been stated that with this hypnotic induction, you can
hypnotize ANYONE who is willing to be hypnotized, in
about five minutes, and that is noooo exageration.
Begin with the following statement, it
creates a contract between you and your subject.
Are you ready to be hypnotized?
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. If you follow my simple
instructions, no power on earth can keep you from being hypnotized. You
can resist if you want to, but that is not why you are here. So just follow
my simple instructions, and you are about to enjoy a very pleasant, relaxing
experience.
(the above paragraph is spoken to your subject,
in order to give them an understanding that the process is up to them,
and that you are simply the guide.)
Rest your arms limply on your thighs like
this.
(demonstrate hands on thighs)
Now, I want you to look up at my hand,
and fix your eyes on my little finger.
( spoken gently and in a non-threatening manner)
I will soon ask you to take a long, deep
breath, and to hold it for a few seconds. I will then pass my hand down
in front of your eyes at which time you will begin to release your breath,
as you keep your eyes fixed on my little finger. As I pass my hand down,
that will cause your eyelids to close down.
(holding your hand at about the ten, eleven o'clock
position will have the effect of weighing down the eyes causing eye strain
and fatigue.)
Now take a long, deep breath, and hold
it for a moment.
(the subject should have his/her eyes held up for
about 15-20 seconds)
I’m now passing my hand down in front
of your eyes, and as I do, let your eyelids close down, and let go of
the surface tension in your body. Just let your body relax as much as
possible right now.
(your vocal inflection should be slightly altered
with words such as "down, and relax," and at times the word
"now", in order to create anchors to these words for future
trances.)
Now, place your awareness on your eye muscles,
and relax every muscle and nerve in and around your eyes, to the point
that they just won’t work. When you’re sure, they’re
so relaxed, that as long as you hold onto this relaxation, they just won’t
work, I want you to hold on to that relaxation and test them, to make
sure they won’t work.
(if your subject opens her eyes, say "that's
right you just tested to make sure that your eyes do work, now relax them
to the point that they won't work, and then test them to make sure they
don't work.)
All right, that’s fine. Now stop
trying and just relax, go deeper now, with each and every breath you exhale
go deeper relaxed.
(only let them test the eyes for a couple of seconds,
you will be able to see her eye movements through her eye-lids)
Now, this relaxation you have in your eyes
is the same quality of relaxation that I want you to have throughout your
whole body. So just let this quality of relaxation flow through your whole
body, from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
(time words such as relax, down, deeper, to your
subject's exhalations)
Now, we can deepen this relaxation much
more. In a moment, I’m going to have you open and close your eyes.
When you close your eyes, that’s your signal to let this feeling
of relaxation become 10 times deeper. All you have to do is want it to
happen and you can make it happen very easily.
(watch your subject's breathing pattern)
OK, now, open your eyes … now close
your eyes, and feel that relaxation flowing through your entire body,
taking you much deeper. Use your wonderful imagination and imagine your
whole body is covered and wrapped in a warm blanket of relaxation.
(direct her to close her eye's down on her exhalation)
Now, we can deepen this relaxation much
more. In a moment, I’m going to have you open and close your eyes
one more time. Again, when you close your eyes, double the relaxation
you now have. Make it become twice as deep.
(once again pace your words to the persons breathing
pattern, speaking mainly on the subjects exhalations)
OK, now once more, open your eyes …
now close your eyes, and double your relaxation … good. Let every
muscle in your body become so relaxed that as long as you hold onto this
quality of relaxation, every muscle of your body will not work.
In a moment, I’m going to have you
open and close your eyes one more time. Again, when you close your eyes,
double the relaxation you now have. Make it become twice as deep.
(this repeated eye open/close procedure is termed
fractionation, and provides for excellent trance deepening)
OK, now, once more, open your eyes …
now close your eyes, and double your relaxation … good. Let every
muscle in your body become so relaxed that as long as you hold onto this
quality of relaxation, every muscle of your body will not work.
In a moment, I’m going to lift your
left hand by the wrist and drop it. If you have followed my instructions
up to this point, that hand will be so relaxed, it will be just as loose
and limp as a wet dish cloth, and will simply plop down. Once your hand
touches your body, I want you to send a wave of relaxation from the top
of your head down to the tip of your toes.
(always inform your subject of touching before doing
so to prevent any type of startle)
I will now lift your ____ hand. Just let
it hang and plop down as I let go. … (deeper relaxed) … that’s
good …
(if you feel your subject helping at all, tell them
to just let go and allow you to do the lifting for them, and then repeat
the procedure)
Now, we’ll do that again with the
other hand. When I lift up your right hand, just allow it to hang freely,
as loose and limp as a wet dish cloth and plop down as I let go. When
it touches your body, send another wave of relaxation from the top of
your head to the tip of your toes, and double your present level of relaxation.
(again make sure that you do the lifting and not
your subject, otherwise repeat the previous step)
I will now lift your hand. Just let it
hang and plop down as I let go.-deeper relaxed.
(the words "deeper relaxed", are repeated
by the hypnotist during the subjects exhalations as the hand
is dropped)
Now, that’s complete physical relaxation.
I want you to know that there are two ways a person can relax. You can
relax physically, and you can relax mentally. You already proved that
you can relax physically. Now let me show you how to relax mentally.
(here you guide your subject into the mental realm,
where he/she pleasantly loses touch with the physical reality)
In a moment, I’ll ask you to begin
slowly counting backwards, out loud, from 100 like this. 100 deeper relaxed
… 99 deeper relaxed … 98 deeper relaxed … Now here’s
the secret to mental relaxation, with each number you say, double your
mental relaxation. With each number you say, let your mind become twice
as relaxed. Now, if you do this, by the time you reach number 96, or maybe
even sooner, your mind will have become so relaxed, you will have actually
relaxed all the rest of the numbers that would have come after it, right
out of your mind, there just won’t be any more numbers.
(at times when people dismiss their body this way,
it is found to be so pleasant that they don't want to come back. Stay
calm, we haven't lost anyone yet)
All right, begin counting:
100 deeper relaxed …"those numbers will leave if you will them
away"…
99 deeper relaxed …"allow all those numbers to just fade away"
…
98 deeper relaxed … "now, they’ll be gone … dispel
them"…
97 deeper relaxed …"banish them, push them out. Make it happen.
Complete amnesia of all those number. Are they all gone? …
Good."
(here your subject begins counting eg. 100 deeper
relaxed, and the hypnotist quietly, but heard repeats words such
as those in the quotations)
I know how relaxed you are, but even in
your relaxed state I’ll bet you sense in your own mind that there
is a state of relaxation below the one you’re in right now. Can
you sense that?
(the client answers, “yes”)
You know that you can clench your fist
and make it tighter and tighter and tighter – and you might call
that the height of tension. You can relax the same fist until you can’t
relax it any more. You might call that the basement of relaxation. I’m
going to take you down to the basement of relaxation.
(at this point we prepare our subject to travel
to a depth commonly known as the "coma state", where reality
is a different world altogether)
To get down to floor A, you have to relax
twice as much as you have relaxed already. To get down to floor B, you
have to relax twice as much as you did at floor A, and to get down to
C, you have to relax twice as much as you did at floor B. But when you
reach floor C, that is the basement of relaxation, and at that point you
will give off signs by which I will be able to tell that you are at the
basement of relaxation. You don’t know what these signs are, and
I’m not going to tell you what they are, but every person who has
ever been at the basement of relaxation gave off those signs … Let’s
get started.
(the signs to watch for are tearing of the eyes,
rapid eye movement, flattening out of the facial muscles, respirations
have settled deeply)
You will ride down to floor A on an imaginary
elevator and you will use that same elevator to get down to the basement
of relaxation. You are on that elevator now. When I snap my fingers, that
elevator will start down. If you relax twice as much as you have relaxed
already you will be down at floor A. Tell me when you are at floor A by
saying the letter A out loud.
(Snap fingers)
The elevator is starting down …now.
(Wait for response)
(Snap fingers) Continuing
down to floor B…now.
(Wait for response)
(Snap fingers) Good, now all
the way down to the basement of relaxation....floor C....now.
(wait,
and watch for signs of depth.)
("once your subject has reached the coma state,
they should not be able to speak. If they do, take them back onto the
elevator and take them lower)
These tests are to be done in the order
provided, otherwise they will not provide an accurate measurement.
Test #1 – Anesthesia
When you’re sure she is at floor C, "without
giving suggestions of any kind for anesthesia", take a pair
of allis clamps or towel clips, and make a test for anesthesia(or
simply pinch the persons hand,-don't worry go ahead, it is ok).
Don’t use a word of suggestion for this. If it is necessary to give
suggestions for hypnotic anesthesia, you don't have the coma
state.
Test #2 – Moving an arm or a leg
Ask your hypnotic subject to try to move
a large group of muscles such as an arm or leg. If he or she is unable
to move the big muscles, he, or she is ready for the third test.
eg.-as you feel the weight of your legs, try to lift them up.
Test #3 – Opening eyes
This should involve a small group of muscles such
as those around the eyes. Ask him to "try to open his eyes".
If he does, he is not in the coma state, and you must take him
down a flight further, until the eye muscles will not work.
In somnambulism, when the client tries to open his eyes, you
will see a movement of the muscles even though the eyes don’t open.
But in the true coma state, those tiny muscles don’t work
at all, and you see no movement whatever.
Test #4 - Catatonia
Your fourth test should
be for catatonia. Realize that catatonia can be obtained
in the lightest state of hypnosis. Therefore, it means nothing
unless it is the fourth test you make in the coma state. When
a client passes all of these four tests in the exact order given, you
may be sure you have the true hypnotic coma, and can proceed
from there. In your test for catatonia, no suggestions should
be given. the catatonia must arrive by itself, without suggestions
of any kind.
(Never go on to a further test until the client
has passed the first one. Don’t make test two until the client has
definitely passed test one: don’t make test three until the client
has passed tests one and two, and so on.)
Trance
Termination
Whenever you and I want
to do hypnosis together in the future, all I will have to do
is pass my hand down in front of your eyes and I will say the word/s "_______"
at which time your eyes will close, and you will re-enter this deep level
of hypnotic relaxation.
(pick your own word/s to fill in the blank. This
acts as a post-hypnotic
suggestion, to enter the state of hypnosis more easily the
next time.)
Even though we just spent a few minutes
today doing hypnosis, you are going to be amazed … at how
well you have done.
(this hypnotic suggestion, suggests a time distortion,
and initiation of amnesia)
In a moment I will count from 1 to 5 at
which time your eyes will open, you will be wide awake, feeling fully
refreshed, and much better than before
(count slowly giving your subject the time he/she
needs to return to a conscious state.)
one – feeling a wave of energy moving
through your body …
two – every part of your body feeling more alive and energized …
three – reorienting to this room completely now …
four – bringing a sense of well being within you …
five – eyes open … fully present in this room … feeling
better than before
(in this manner, your subject will feel fully refreshed,
and much better than before.)
(it is said that 20minutes of hypnosis provides for the equivalent
of 2 hours of sleep)

of its ease of use, and speed of guiding the client into a deep

Self
Hypnosis Script
The following free self
hypnosis scripts will help you achieve a light or medium state
of hypnosis. For those who would like to explore a little further,
I have provided another free hypnosis script, of Caprio's
4-A's Method of Self Hypnosis
(Caprio, "Healing
Yourself with Self Hypnosis", 1998) just
a little ways down the page.
1 ) Physical Relaxation: To
bring oneself to a state of complete physical relaxation is the first
step.
- Sit or lay down in a comfortable, distraction free environment and
close your eyes.
- Direct your eyes up to the 10:00 o’clock position and close
them holding this position.
- Take a long, deep breath, and hold it for a few seconds, then let
it out slowly. As you do, allow yourself to sink deeply into your seat.
- Repeat the long deep breath, holding it for a few seconds, and then
slowly letting it go, as you sink deeper into your chair.
- Take a third long deep breath, holding it for a few seconds, and then
as you slowly release it, allow a wave of relaxation to flow from the
top of your head down to the tips of your toes.
2 ) Eyelid Relaxation: When
you are ready, place your attention on your eye muscles and relax every
muscle and nerve in and around your eyes to the point that they just
won’t work. When you are sure they are so relaxed, that as long
as you hold onto this quality of relaxation, they just won’t work,
test them to make sure, they won’t work.
- Once you have tested your eyes and found them not to work, you know
that your unconscious imagination has taken charge, bypassing
your critical
faculty.
3 ) Body Relaxation: At
this point focus your attention on a point at the top center of your
mind and take a deep relaxing breath, then as you release the breath
imagine a wave of relaxation flowing from the top of your head, flowing
through your body out the tips of your toes.
- Repeat this final step 3 or 4 times, doubling the relaxation you have
each time.
4 ) Mental Relaxation: Once
you have achieved physical relaxation, you can proceed to mental relaxation.
- Begin slowly counting backwards from 100, repeating the words deeper
relaxed, like this:
100 – deeper relaxed
99 – deeper relaxed
98 – deeper relaxed …
- With the passing of each number, imagine pushing it away, out of your
mind
- By the time you reach 97, 96, or possibly 95, push all the numbers
left out of your mind, completely banishing them.
- At this point, one can begin to install positive suggestions, simply
relax for a while, or a allow yourself to have a nice relaxing sleep.
- It is suggested that when it is desired to leave the hypnotic state,
a counting out procedure of 1 to 5 be applied, while providing suggestions
of feeling wonderful, fully refreshed, and much better than before be
used.
Caprio's 4-A's
Method of Free Self Hypnosis
The 4-A’s method of self hypnosis
is a step-by-step guideline used to help one relax and induce the hypnotic
state in order to successfully respond to self-given hypnotic suggestions.
The technique could be applied to a myriad number
of challenges in everyday life, and its only real limitation is the
imagination and perseverance of the subject applying the self hypnosis
technique.
Before one begins the technique, one must decide on the desired results.
An understanding of the challenge at the conscious
level provides a greater understanding at the unconscious level.
This free self hypnosis technique as
its title suggests consists of four steps.
Step 1) Autorelaxation – to induce hypnotic
self-relaxation.
a) Select a location free of distractions and
interruptions. Some people find soft music helpful. If music is selected,
I personally suggest something in the area of 60 beats per second such
as baroque, because of its calming effect on the system which slows
the heartbeat.
b) Lie down, wearing comfortable non-obstructive clothing, maybe none
at all. With time one may prefer to sit or stand because some might
tend to fall asleep which is still all right.
c) Take three deep breaths, breathing deeply and slowly. With my clients
I suggest that they lightly touch a point at the back top center of
their head where the hair starts to circle. After touching this point
and relaxing their arm at their side, they are to fix their concentration
on this point, and notice the feeling of where their finger just touched.
This provides a kinesthetic internal association.
d) Close your eyes. With this step I further suggest that the subjects
turn their eyes up to the 10, 11 o’clock position as they concentrate
on the sensation at the back, top, center of their head, and as they
breathe deeply … and slowly … taking each breath into the
depths of their belly … begin to notice … how gently …
the tension leaves their bodies … as they slowly … exhale.
e) Say to yourself:
“I am relaxing all the muscles of my body
… starting from my head to my feet. The muscles of my face and
neck are relaxing … I’m beginning to feel free of all muscle
tension … My arms feel limp and relaxed … The muscles of
my thighs, legs, and feet are relaxed … As I breathe deeply and
slowly, my entire body is completely relaxed. I feel calm and relaxed
all over.”
f) It is recommended to remind oneself at this
point that relaxation is a state of mind.
g) Tell yourself, “self-relaxation
brings me inestimable health benefits. I devote as much time and effort
as I need to practice the technique of self-relaxation. I am mastering
the art of self-relaxation. Each time I practice, it is easier."
After practicing the self hypnosis technique
above for a week or two, it is time to accelerate the relaxation, with
the use of a key word or phrase. I like to also apply kinesthetics to
the words or phrases by touching the thumb to finger(s), while repeating
the word(s) or phrase(s). This has the effect of developing a trigger,
also know as an anchor
to help you get there quickly later.
From this point on, once one is able to relax they are able to apply
repetitive suggestions to their subconscious minds,
to accomplish pretty well anything possible.
Step 2) Autosuggestion
Human beings operate on the basis of suggestion.
Everything we know has come from suggestions.
Self hypnosis works on the theory of suggestibility,
and just as we have external influences we could have internal influences.
Who better to influence us, than our own desired thoughts. The voluntary
acceptance of a suggestion is essential to successful self
hypnosis, and persistent practice increases one’s receptivity.
To help one increase their ability to accept suggestion, it
is recommended that the subject apply a suggestibility test.
This is a test used to determine if one has reached the required state
of mind desired to accept suggestion. The goal is to eliminate one’s
critical thinking factor, thereby allowing suggestion to be effectively
accepted and applied.

Tests
Caprio's text provides three
suggestibility tests one can practice.
a) The eye-closure test. -
The test suggests that the subject pick a spot up on the wall and try
to close the eyes within a count from ten to one. It is my belief that
if the subject tries he has provided room for failure.
I prefer to use Dave Elman’s technique of having the eyes closed
and trying to open them, suggesting a failure at the opening of the
eyes.
b) The swallowing test. -
This test can be applied in place of or immediately after test a). The
subject is to suggest to themselves that they will have the desire to
swallow some time during the process of counting from one to ten. When
applying this test, the subject is to wait until he swallows without
conscious direction.
c) The hand-tingling test. -
This test is applied in the same format as the suggestions in tests
a) and b).
It must be remembered to remove any suggestion not desired to be kept
and to have it return to normal, otherwise the suggestion could continue
indefinitely.
Step 3) – Autoanalysis
This comes under the category of self-analysis.
After the self-relaxation and eye closure technique, you are ready to
solve your specific problem(s). One is to question oneself with simple,
straight-forward questions, due to the fact that the subconscious takes
matters quite literally. A person can regress as far back as required,
and do some analysis. As Caprio states “self-knowledge is the
key to successful self discipline”.
Step 4) Autotherapy
This step consists of conditioning your mind to
positive thinking and a positive plan of action through the use of post
hypnotic suggestions.
Self-therapy is based on the principle of “I can – I must
– I will – achieve my goal – that I have the mind-power
to accept and carry out certain self given suggestions that will enable
me to overcome almost any handicap, to improve my personality, and acquire
a healthier philosophy of life.”
Ericksonian
Hypnosis Script
For those who have studied
Ericksonian Hypnosis, the thought arises as to how someone
could have a free hypnosis script, when the primary course
of an Ericksonian induction is for the hypnotist to
follow his subject, and respond in such a manner that follows what the
subject is doing. Although the above would be correct, as the reader
will soon learn, it is possible to still follow one's subject, yet lead
in an unobtrusive manner, as I have demonstrated in the sample free
hypnosis script I have composed below.
First, and foremost, an Ericksonian
induction begins with attaining rapport with your subject, normally
done via pacing,
and leading. Once rapport is achieved the hypnotist takes
the lead, and can begin as such:
And now…as you sit there…comfortably
wondering…you can…uncross your legs…as we begin…breathing
deeply…with your hands…on your lap…simply wondering…of
what comes next…even now…what seemed like years…could
seem like yesterday…way back then…you felt a comfort…so
relaxing…and wished to stay…as eyes felt heavy…fluttering
slightly…and closing down…similar…to a child’s
hunger…for fun and play…casual memories…of way back
then…first impressions…of people…birds, and play…a
flash of color…what was that…your first butterfly…fluttering
by…lightly floating…higher…and higher…through
the sky…right or left…which hand will it be…as you
breath…lighter and lighter…consciously…forgetting…
that’s right…to left…to the beginning…of way
back then…in that house…of new beginnings…and new
learning's…changes…dressing…it makes me wonder…and
really wonder…about that learning…first…one leg in…then
the next…zippers up…and shirt tucked in…and tying
shoes…was it a chore…right to left…and left...over
right…loop one…and wrap the other…loop again…then
pull it tight…and then the other…now…is it the same…or
opposed…right to left …or left to right….seemed confusing…but
then you learned…and kept on learning…forever now…made
new friends…and joyous times…stop at one…and then
another…there right now…and still wondering…what joyous
treasure…lay in wrapping…opening now…that special
gift…so much meaning…in little wonders…what you hold
now…tell me…about your treasure…if you wish…upon
a star…deeep…within the sky…there are millions…shooting
downnnn….deeper…where many treasures…await…as
your prize…
