Tracking
Tracking is a process
used to gather, and organize 4-tuples
for the purpose of taking a client from her present state, to her desired
state with the fewest number of steps possible.
This is most easily done by
gathering 4-tuples, and the simplest way of gathering the desired
4-tuples, is to ask questions which presuppose the desired
4-tuple. The reason for this is, because people naturally access
the applicable modalities to which they speak about, and this is also
termed a transderivational
search. For instance, it is impossible to speak about happy times,
and maintain a miserable outlook. In fact just the other day I called
upon a friend through yahoo messenger, and found her to be extremely
distraught. She was upset enough, that she couldn’t even begin
to tell me what was wrong. Immediately I typed out “Puff…that
wonderful magical dragon”. The line caught her completely
off guard, no introduction, no warning, just, “Puff
that wonderful magical dragon”. All she could say was,
“what are you talking about”.
I then simply responded with, “that’s
right, you remember that song, in the not so long ago. Now how did it
start again…Let’s see…Puff, the magic dragon….”,
she immediately followed with, “lived by
the sea…”.
Now why did I interject with
something so silly, and off the wall? I did it to access a different
state, a 4-tuple completely different from the one she was
presently living. I had her immediately regressed
to her childhood, talking about happy times, and when she first learned
that wonderful song. A couple of days later, she sent a thank you for
that wonderful trance experience, and how amazed she was at
the rapidity of the change in her state. In fact she said she didn’t
even remember what had upset her till the next day, but was able to
deal with it as she kept hearing that wonderful song. It seems that
the words to the song triggered childhood anchors
rapidly changing her state. In turn, the associated 4-tuples
went along with it, and seemed to collapse the bad feelings she was
having.
Tracking Model I -is the simplest
of the trance inducing models, it is just the tracking
of the client’s present state to a desired state, all in
one step.
Examples would be as I demonstrated above, where I instantly sent my
friend on a regressive trance by mentioning words to a childhood
song. Another way of using a 4-tuple to access an immediate
trance state is to ask about a detailed elaboration of a person’s
favorite place to relax. A good one for mothers, would be to ask what
it was like the first time they looked at their baby, and noticed it
smiling at them.
So as can be seen from the examples above, any request, or question
that would revive, or create a pleasant detailed memory, whether real
or imagined would be sufficient. Once the client is really getting into
it, then deepening is recommended, and this can be easily done simply
by continueing the story or playing along asking more qustions.
Tracking Model II - The induction
of trance using Tracking Model II is accomplished
by systematically describing 4-tuples, which lead to the desired
state. When doing so, the hypnotist would first elicit some
information from the client, in order to learn the client’s
primary
referential system, and possibly L-operator, along with the elicitation
of enough information to gather the required 4-tuples to lead
the client into the desired state of hypnosis. Once the hypnotist
believes he has enough information to begin, he simply his story, or
elaboration of some process, while systematically inputting and chronologically
marking out the gather 4-tuples which he believes would lead
to the desired trance state. As the hypnotist commences
upon his story, he would naturally use the client’s own language
(R-operator), to maintain rapport, and artistically shift his
client from an external orientation, to an internal one, then shift
modalities to the clients Lead operator as he induces
trance.
Tracking Model III - This model
is a resource builder so to speak. When the client desires a state for
which there is no such past 4-tuple, the hypnotist
can create a new 4-tuple by strategically asking questions
from the client as to "how she might look,
and how she would see things”, or how she might “feel,
or physically present herself”, what she might “hear
within herself, or what she might sound like”, along with
questions as to what particular “flavor,
or scent the experience might elicit”. In essence the hypnotist
elicits all the desired elements necessary to create the new resource
4-tuple.
While the hypnotist has the client accessing the required elements,
he anchors each part of the desired state either overtly, or
covertly stacked upon each other so that they can later be fired off
simultaneously. If the client completely lacks any past experience to
complete, or even begin building the desired state, she can be asked
if she knows anyone who models what she desires, and how that person
would respond as questions were asked to elicit the desired elements
to the new 4-tuple. In the world of NLP, this model
is commonly known as a “Resource Builder”.
The difference in the third tracking model compared to the
first two models is that, the desired 4-tuple does not exist
within the client’s experience as an entire unit, and is to be
compiled. This is accomplished by accessing past 4-tuples,
which contain the elements necessary to create a new 4-tuple
to enable the desired state.
